IELTS リスニングのマップ問題【地図問題】の解き方

マップ問題はセクション２の後半部分に頻出します。
最近では質問応対形式が増加傾向にありますが、必ずカバーしておくべき問題形式のひとつです。
マップ問題は、以下の2パターンが見られます。

１．いつも位置が一定して始まる場合、例えば会場のレセプションなどを拠点にして何がどこにあるかを問われる場合

２．ひとつ前の問題の場所、もしくは、あるストリートの名前を拠点にして次の場所を示す場合

２つに共通して言える対策は、話者が話しているストリートの名前や固有名詞などを素早く地図上で見つけることです。
リスニングが始まる前の20～30秒間に、必ずどのストリートがどこにあるのかなどある程度把握しておくと、素早く場所を探すことができます。特に問われている場所の付近に何があるかを見ておく必要があります。

【例題】ストリートの名前を拠点にして場所を示す場合

OK, so this slide shows a map of the central area of Granford, with the High Street in the
middle and School Road on the right. Now, we already have a set of traffic lights in the High
Street at the junction with Station Road but we’re planning to have another set at the other
end at the School Road junction, to regulate the flow of traffic along the High Street.
We’ ve decided we definitely need a pedestrian crossing. We considered putting this on
School Road, just outside the school, but in the end we decided that could lead to a lot of
traffic congestion so we decided to locate it on the High Street. crossing the road in front of 
the supermarket. That’s a very busy area, so it should help things there.
We’re proposing some changes to parking. At present, parking isn’ t allowed on the High
Street outside the library. but we’re going to change that. and allow parking there, but not at
the other end of the High Street near School Road.
There’ II be a new No Parking sign on School Road just by the entrance to the school,
forbidding parking for 25 metres. This should improve visibility for drivers and pedestrians,
especially on the bend just to the north of the school.

14：New traffic lights

リスニング部分➡”Now, we already have a set of traffic lights in the high street at the junction with Station Road,”（これはAを指しています）but we are planning to have another set at the other end, at the School Road junction. 

ですから、これは E となりますね。

15：Pedestrian crossing

リスニング部分 ➡”We’ve decided we definitely need a pedestrian crossing. We considered putting this on School Road, just outside the school, but in the end, we decided that could lead to a lot of traffic congestion(これはひっかけです。このように「最終的に」どう決めたのか、などキーワードになることが多々あります) so we decided to locate it on the High Street. crossing the road in front of the supermarket.”

正解は、Dです。

！注目ポイント！

1. リスニングが始まる前に地図を見て、どこに何があるかをある程度把握しておく
2. 問われている場所の付近に何があるかを必ず確認する
3. ひっかけ表現に注意する
4. 次の設問に移動したサインを聞き逃さない＊

次の設問に移動するサインとは！？

話題が違う場所に移ることを意図する表現です。聞き逃したまま、ズルズルと最後まで引きずらないように、話題が違う場所に移ったサインを見逃さず、そこからしっかりと気持ちを入れかえて聞いていくことで、立て続けに問題をミスすることを防ぎましょう。

【トランジションの例】
「If you just want a snack」,　「If you look ahead of you」,　というように IF が使われて、今までの話題とは全く違う話題になっている時、その他、「And talking about children」,　「Now, you can see xxx 」, 「And the last thing to mention 」など。

【例題】いつも同じ場所を起点とする場合 

リスニングのスクリプト

We have a very good restaurant, which serves excellent food all day, in a relaxing
atmosphere. To reach it when you get to the bottom of the stairs go straight ahead to the far 
side of the sitting area. then turn right into the corridor. You’ II see the door of the restaurant
facing you.
If you just want a snack, or if you’d like to eat somewhere with facilities for children, we also
have a cafe. When you reach the bottom of the stairs you’II need to go straight ahead. turn
right into the corridor. and the cafe is immediately on the right.
And talking about children, there are baby-changing facilities downstairs: cross the sitting
area. continue straight ahead along the corridor on the left and you and your baby will find
the facilities on the left-hand side.
The cloakroom. where you should leave coats. umbrellas and any large bags. is on the left
hand side of the sitting area. It’s through the last door before you come to the corridor.
